Biography

Jani Matti Juhani (b. 1982) is a Finnish singer-songwriter and music producer whose work drifts between genres — from glam rock to krautrock, from 60s pop to minimalist art music. Since 2004, he has released over a dozen albums, either solo or as the frontman of various bands, first under the pseudonym Jann Wilde and, since 2014, under his given names.

His early career brought national attention through Finland’s Eurovision selection, where Jann Wilde & Rose Avenue placed among the top three in the public vote. Later, he began writing and recording in Finnish, often at home in true DIY fashion. His lyrics explore themes of love, melancholy, political unease, and surreal humor.

Jani Matti Juhani’s recent work includes experimental spoken-word compositions (Harhapyörä, 2024), Elvis covers in Finnish (Jani Matti Juhani laulaa Elvistä suomeksi, Volumes 1–3), and the Britpop-inspired Maailma palaa raiteilleen (2022). His collaborators have included Anna Kuoppamäki, Knipi, Pekka Laine, Henna Emilia Hietamäki, and Ville Leinonen.

Plagued by an ongoing battle with social anxiety, Jani rarely performs live — instead preferring solitude, tape hiss, and the beauty of imperfection. Following his idols — Scott Walker, Brian Wilson, and David Bowie — his songs are diaries, detours, and echoes of a world slightly out of step, or perhaps just tuned to a different frequency.
